Adidas SL 72 – A Brief History

Originally designed for the Munich Olympics and traditionally used on the podium. The Adidas SL-72 has become an iconic shoe in its own right. With 60 years of the iconic Adidas Suns & Stripes, they celebrate the dominance of the brand’s pitch and terrace.

The original Adidas SL72 was constructed from breathable nylon fabric, but the shoe’s most distinctive features were the traction-tread outsole, built-in heel counter, and lightweight design, hence the name Adidas SL72 (Super Light).

The original launched as a running/jogging shoe and launched with some understated colorways, unlike its predecessor the sl73 which came in bright colors like bright orange and yellow.

They got more and more recognition from the smart casual fashion of the ’80s, whose collection of iconic Adidas shoes like the Adidas Sl72 grew and grew.

The Adidas SL72 has always been made with a mix of nylon and suede fabric to create a truly lightweight running shoe. Many of the popular shoes of the time were made in fairly understated colors such as blues and browns. These Adidas SL72s were primarily seen on the podiums at the 1972 Olympics and have gained a cult following among many.

Adidas recently launched a range of original Star Wars-inspired clothing, jackets and sneakers. The first collection was inspired by the main characters of the saga and then the ‘Vehicle’ pack focused on a mix of vehicles from the Rebel and Galactic Empire squadrons, now the collection continues with the Han Solo inspired SL72.

The Han Solo SL72 with its black silver top, inspired by the time Han was frozen in carbonite, is beautifully depicted in the image printed on the tongue. Other Star Wars-inspired features include Han Solo details like the red sides of his pants mimicked by the stitched stripe at the back of the heel and the man himself immortalized on the side, with ‘HAN SOLO 77’ replacing the usual logo engraving. .

These classic sneakers will always hold great respect among casuals as a group and have been seen on many soccer terraces across the country alongside other classics such as the Adidas Trimm Trabbs, Adidas Forrest Hills and Adidas Gazelles.
