Can Too Much Coffee Cause Sciatica? The strange truth behind your cup of joe

Okay, this is another weird article topic here, but please bear with me. Have you ever wondered if the coffee you drink in the morning on the way to work could be causing your back pain and sciatica?

Well of course there are foods you can eat that hurt or help inflammation in your body, which can contribute to back pain. Foods like junk food, fast food, red meat, fried foods, pastries and cakes, of course, are not good for you. These foods are loaded with trans fat, saturated fat, and have a high glycemic index. All of which will only exacerbate inflammation and make back pain worse.

At the other end of the spectrum are foods like walnuts, blueberries, salmon, cod, and other fruits that are extremely good for your health. These foods are packed with Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamin D. All of these foods are great for you for many different reasons, but when it comes to your back, they all help reduce inflammation, taking pressure off you. your spinal nerves and relieves back pain.

But where does coffee fit on this spectrum? Now, of course, there are extremely sugary, high-calorie coffees that you can get at chain coffee shops. These types of coffees have high glycemic indexes and many of them contain a large amount of saturated fat. These coffees are definitely not good for inflammation and back pain.

But what about straight black coffee without all the sugar and other goodies that turn a breakfast drink into a dessert?

Well, black coffee is so much better for you and it doesn’t really have the “not good for you” ingredients. But it doesn’t have any of the good ingredients either.

However, I’m sure you know that coffee contains caffeine. If you’ve ever had to write a college academic paper the night before your due date, you’ve probably used it to your advantage.

But did you know that caffeine can actually raise the anxiety levels you experience? This is why people who get nervous from drinking too much coffee seem a little more nervous than usual. Essentially, coffee makes them nervous and sends their bodies into a fight or flight condition.

When you’re fighting or running, your muscles are a bit more tense than normal, mainly to prepare for a quick escape or a confrontation with any perceived threat.

Now if you have back pain, this is not good news. Even a little muscle tension can cause the piriformis or psoas muscle to irritate the sciatic nerve and cause back pain. Definitely not good.

So, you see, while there’s probably not much real danger in drinking a cup of coffee in the morning, it can contribute to back pain problems. If your back pain is something you’ve been struggling with for a while, cutting back on coffee might be worth the effort.
