Trying to break into the entertainment industry? Do not give up!

One of the most exciting things about working in entertainment is that you never know what will happen next. If you’ve had a series of unsuccessful auditions but are passionate about turning it into entertainment, our message is; do not give up! Your big break could be just around the corner.

While our advice would be to work as hard on your talents as possible, it might encourage you to know that even some of the most famous actors on the circuit arrived there in a rather unconventional style. Clint Eastwood and Tommy Lee Jones, for example, didn’t take acting classes, and Samuel Jackson got his first big break with ‘Pulp Fiction’ at age 46. Justin Bieber was discovered on YouTube and Lily Allen and Sean Kingston made their way into the limelight of profiles on MySpace.

So yeah, if you have original talent and an appearance that attracts the right people at the right time, you can do that too.

In the meantime, do what you can to increase your chances by following these tips:

Practice. Whatever your talent, keep working on it because no matter how skilled, determined and passionate you are, you can be sure you have competition.

Profile. Work on your online profile and create a digital press kit or show reel. These items should be in place as they may be required by a prospective employer on short notice and are a basic tool that will really help you market yourself effectively.

Network. Use your online presence, digital press kit, or show reel to actively promote yourself in the right circles and attend networking events.

Mentors Get a mentor if you can. No one can teach you more about the industry than someone who has already done it or who works with people who have.

Voluntary. Volunteer part-time at a local television studio, theater, or radio station. Doing so will provide valuable insight into how the industry works and may generate leads for you.
