Visit Seattle, a city of fabulous views and great food

It wasn’t that long ago that Seattle seemed to be dying. In 1971, with the local airline industry reeling, two real estate agents posted a billboard near Sea-Tac airport that read, “Last person to leave Seattle, please turn off the lights?” Of course, things have changed dramatically since then.

Over the past 40 years, Seattle has become one of the most attractive cities in the United States for both visitors and residents. Probably the best-known structure in Seattle is the 605-foot-tall Space Needle, left over from the 1962 World’s Fair. It’s a great way to get your bearings, although the elevator ride to the top is expensive at $ 17. the observation deck are spectacular and you can ride the monorail to the Space Needle from downtown.

If you travel by monorail to the Space Needle, you will travel through the Experience Music Project, known by the acronym EMP, which is located next to Needle. Built by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, whose label is in both Seattle and Portland, EMP is a temple to Northwest rock music history. It includes an extensive collection of artifacts recounting the life of local native Jimi Hendrix. At the EMP Sound Lab, visitors can experience what it’s like to perform in front of legions of fans. You can even burn your own CD.

While at the EMP, enter the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, located within the EMP complex. The museum focuses on the world of science fiction. The venue offers a variety of hands-on experiences and celebrates the most popular movies, TV shows, and science fiction books. The metal structure and highly unusual architecture of the EMP are the product of architect Frank Gehry and have been the subject of controversy.

One attraction that has become synonymous with Seattle’s rebound is Pike Place Market. The market has existed since 1907, but it practically died in the 1960s. A proposal from that decade called for demolishing the market and building Pike Place, which would have included a hotel, apartments, offices, and a hockey stadium. The development of Pike Place was supported by the mayor and city officials. However, the proposal woke up community members who were opposed to the wrecking ball. In 1971, an initiative created a historic preservation zone that led to restoration and renovation.

These days, the farmers and fishmongers of Pike Place Market are joined by local artists and artisans. The Market also contains specialty food stores and some of Seattle’s best restaurants in all price ranges. The fact that Pike Place Market is so popular is an indication that Seattle is a city of foodies.

Many of the best restaurants in town are in the Pike Place neighborhood and near Belltown. A Seattle delicacy is Pike Place Chowder, where several seafood soups make up the menu. Waterfront Seafood Grill is a nearby gem offering expensive but delicious seafood dishes. For steak lovers, Metropolitan Grill Downtown is the best option.
