Land Rover Discovery 3.0 TDV6 Diesel Engine Review

In 1989, a marvel of British engineering, the Land Rover Discovery, was launched. It had a roomy body mounted on a Range Rover chassis, powered by a diesel engine. It had a huge impact on family car sales by utilizing the emerging MPV phenomenon. Land Rover launched the Discovery 3 in 2004. This was no ordinary upgrade, it was a giant step on the part of the manufacturer, bringing the Discovery to the top of the off-road class. The Discovery proved to be the most relaxing and comfortable off-roader, but at the same time unstoppable. It received an update in 2009 and was given a larger diesel engine. To recognize the Discovery among all the others, even a bird’s eye view is more than enough; it has the blunt nose, straight hood, stepped roof and wrapped side windows at the rear.

It was an obligation for Land Rover to offer a class-leading range of capabilities, which resulted in the basic structure of the car’s body being restructured. As a result, the integrated body frame was born, two separate chassis emerged and were placed under the Discovery. For superb off-road performance, it uses a ladder frame that offers strength. Thanks to the air spheres for springs and the double wishbones in the corners, the performance on the road is second to none. Each and every Discovery comes with a magnesium shock structure, air suspension and Land Rover’s trade name, The Terrain Response System, this electronic manager automatically adjusts throttle response, ride height, shift pattern and stability controls according to the landscape.

It goes without saying that the automaker is very dedicated to offering its customers more than they could have ever imagined. The car combined an electronically controlled gearbox, with a lockable rear differential and a computer controlled center differential for an extreme on and off road experience. However, it is clear that no car in the world would offer the quality comfort, enormous space and safety features that the Discovery offers. It features three individual seats in the middle row, providing excellent support for passengers. The brilliantly executed third-row folding seats are simple and large enough to accommodate grown adults. On-board safety features include: twin frontal airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, individual three-point belts and optional curtain airbags for third-row passengers.

Land Rover Discovery engines come in two petrol units. A 215bhp 4.0-litre V6 unit generating 365Nm of torque, accelerates from 0-62mph in just 11.6 seconds, delivering a combined economy of 18.6mpg with CO2 emissions of 359g/km. The other is a 370bhp 5.0-litre V8 engine that produces a whopping 508Nm of torque and takes just 7.9 seconds to hit 62mph, has a combined economy of 20.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 328g/km. Land Rover Discovery Diesel engines include: a 118bhp 2.7-litre TDV6 generating 441Nm of torque, zero to 62mph in just 11.6 seconds, combined economy of 30.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 244g/km. then there’s a 241bhp 3.0-litre TDV6 unit that produces a massive 600Nm of torque and takes just 9.6 seconds to sprint from 0-62mph and has a combined economy of 30.4mpg with 244g/km CO2 emissions.
