How to stop sleep talking in adults

Sleep talking varies from person to person. Most of us don’t talk in our sleep, or if we do, it’s only rarely. But if your partner has noticed you talking in your sleep (by definition, we don’t notice it ourselves because we’re asleep), then what can you do to reduce and eliminate the problem?

Sometimes sleep talking increases when we are sick. A bit like dreams, it can be your mind’s way of solving problems. So if that’s the case for you, you may just have to wait for your illness to go away. I am sorry.

Stress

Your stress levels are another trigger that can cause you to talk in your sleep.

Stress manifests itself in different ways: some people become withdrawn, others become less tolerant, others suppress it and eventually get sick. There is no consistency and you may not notice your stress levels rising.

So it could be that sleep talking is your body giving you a warning that your stress levels are going the wrong way.

Usually with stress, other people notice it before we do, so check with close friends to see if they can help you identify if it’s the culprit.

Then take some steps to lower your stress levels; It’s probably a good idea, even if you think you’re not stressed.

More exercise helps. The same goes for various relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation, hypnosis, or even just taking long, deep breaths.

prescription drugs

Most medications have side effects, so they should be one of the first things you think about if you suffer from sleep talking.

If you’ve just changed medications or dosage, or added a new pill to the ever-growing list your doctor loves to prescribe, that could be a sign.

Do your best to track your sleep conversations and find out if there have been any changes in your medications.

Remember that it is impossible to test all possible combinations of drugs, so they are only tested individually. The combination you are taking may not be unique, but because you are unique, your drug interactions will be equally unique.

Talk to your doctor if you think this is the case, and do your best to narrow it down to a particular change.

Too much alcohol

Alcohol is another item on the “usual suspect” list with regards to sleep talking.

If you regularly drink enough alcohol that you don’t remember everything that happened last night, that’s still not a good sign.

But it doesn’t have to be huge amounts of alcohol that contribute to you talking in your sleep.

Even a few drinks can tip the balance between a peaceful night and one disturbed by talking in your sleep.

consider hypnosis

You are not consciously talking in your sleep: there is something bubbling up in your subconscious mind that is causing your nightly chatter.

Hypnosis works with your subconscious mind to help reduce or even eliminate your late night conversations with nothing more complicated on your part than listening to an MP3.

It’s affordable, it won’t be added to your drug list, and it works often.
