Are work from home opportunities really safe? Well, like everything, some are and some are not. A business, which one can run from home, makes sense to many people, including working mothers, however, there have been some unethical practitioners in this sector of business opportunities, which have come to the attention of the Federal Trade Commission for fraudulent incentives.
In a recent Federal Trade Commission report on proposed regulatory changes for all business opportunities, work-at-home business opportunities were often cited as problematic. Below are some of the observations in the experience the Federal Trade Commission has found dealing with fraudulent work-at-home business scheme opportunities and why the FTC is considering them in its upcoming regulatory changes;

“Deceptive work-at-home schemes are a persistent type of fraud, preying on stay-at-home parents, the physically disabled, non-English speakers and others unable to obtain employment outside the home. For the most part, they are not distinguishable in any material respect from business opportunities covered by the existing Franchise Rule At least $1,000, with more than 48% reporting losses of more than $5,000 Approximately 24% reported losses over $10,000”.
After reading this brief excerpt, you can certainly see why the FTC wants to ensure that consumers are not harmed or fraudulently induced to purchase such work-at-home schemes by unethical professionals, who might simply lie to make the sale. Now, we need to remind people that there are plenty of legitimate work at home business opportunities available on the market, and sometimes working at home makes a lot of sense.
