Hawaii Hotels: Reminders for a Tourist

A Hawaii vacation is a welcome gift for anyone who loves to experience the magical atmosphere of an island paradise. To make your vacation truly enjoyable and memorable, these reminders will guide you along the way.

Hawaii as a US Territory

As one of the 50 US states, any foreign traveler entering Hawaii from another country must meet the same entry requirements as for the United States in general. However, those entering from the mainland, it is not necessary to show the passport or visas of any US citizen or legal immigrant. This also applies to foreign visitors from the mainland. However, the visitor will be asked to complete a written agricultural declaration while on board the flight. This is a requirement of the Hawaiian and US Departments of Agriculture as protection against harmful diseases and pests entering the territory. This includes the declaration and inspection of any fresh food, vegetables, flowers and the like, usually carried out by Department of Agriculture staff at the port of arrival. Certain specific items are prohibited from entering Hawaii and this merits a severe violation penalty. If you don’t want to interrupt your vacation, follow this rule obediently.

Move around the island

Since Hawaii is an archipelago, air travel is generally required for travel within the island. If you are traveling to the neighboring island, it is better to consult the scheduled airline to organize your trip instead of using the unscheduled airlines that are also available. This will save you from reaching your destination without hassle or interruption. You can also save money and time by using the triangle route that arrives in Hawaii on one island and departs on another. You can choose from six scheduled inter-island airlines, all regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration through the state’s local Standard Flight District Office. If you chose to fly according to your own demand, you can search for air taxi. This unscheduled airline can pick you up and land wherever you want. Be sure to contact your air taxi service a day or two before your trip to avoid interruptions in your activities. Public transport by bus is also a good way to get around the island.

Driving in Hawaii

Check the bus schedule and more information on the Public Transport System website. If you have transported your own car by boat, you can drive around the island with your car. Hawaii is the only state that honors all vehicle licenses until they expire. Still, it is better to rent a car. Make an early reservation and don’t be surprised by its high fee because rental rates are based on supply / demand. Expect to have a higher cost of gasoline as the price here is 10% higher than the prevailing price on the mainland. The remote neighboring island charged more up to a 15% high price. By boat or motor sailing it is not advisable since sailing can be very difficult. Also, there are only a few charter companies and Honolulu is the only port of origin. Scooter, motorcycle and moped can also help you get around the island. But make sure you have a license to drive motorcycles, while scooters don’t need one. The moped does not require a license, but the driver must be 15 years or older. Remember, two or more people cannot ride a moped as it is prohibited on most islands, but not as strict on remote islands.

Checking your hotel

Once in Hawaii, you can enjoy most of the island by staying at any of the many Hawaii hotels known for providing the best and authentic Hawaiian hospitality. The best thing is to stay in a hotel where you can easily get around the island. It should be located near or within walking distance of shopping centers, restaurants, conventions and the many attractions of the island. Your hotel should not only attend to your physical safety but also mental, emotional and spiritual. You are in Hawaii to enjoy a vacation and your hotel is the starting point to feel your vacation. You must book your hotel as soon as possible. Organize your accommodation preferences and check out all the amenities and facilities it has to offer. Make sure you get your reputation information and a good rating, as this is an important aspect of getting the best hotel accommodation.

Understanding people

English is one of the official languages. You can meet many people who speak English and the language is not a barrier in communication. But be careful not to address a local resident like Hawaiian, as most of them are of a mixed race and culture. Just address them as islanders, as many prefer. You should also be respectful when visiting some attractions, as the islanders are more spiritually inclined. They have several places considered sacred and should be given due respect.
