How Gordon Brown could look more in control

Whatever your political views, I’m sure you can’t help but feel sorry for Gordon Brown. In all the recent photographs of him, pasted on the pages of all the newspapers, he looks exhausted, dejected and sad. This is not surprising. Key politicians from his party have publicly resigned and Gordon has been left picking up the pieces. This, combined with the disastrous results of the recent local elections, is enough to send any politician to the depths of despair. But Gordon is a fighter and he doesn’t give up, so he keeps going.

I can’t claim to be politically minded, so I’m not in a position to offer Gordon advice at this level, however I feel I could offer advice on how to appear more positive and less jaded, simply by carefully choosing the colors you choose to wear.

Gordon Brown has dark eyes and gray hair, so he would be classified as “cool” in color. This means that he needs to wear colors that have a “blue” undertone. Colors with a yellow undertone will give you a sallow and tired look. I’ve recently seen him wearing a purple tie, which is in the right vein but worn in the wrong situation. The tie had a “blue” undertone that complemented his white shirt and his gray suit, but he wore this subtle combination at a time when he was trying to assert his leadership.

Strong, contrasting colors send a message of authority and leadership. If Gordon had worn a red tie with a crisp white shirt and dark gray suit, he would have looked stronger. The tie would have to be blue-red, but still a strong, light red, which would have doubled as representing Labor Red.

Using colors that suit your skin tone, hair color, and eyes can make all the difference in how good you can look. You may be “dead on your feet,” but by wearing a color that flatters you, you can look as fresh as a daisy. Conversely, even if you just got back from vacation and got 10 hours of sleep, you can still look like you’ve been partying all night if you’re wearing a color that’s not right for you. Anyone can use color to convey a message of health and control over their life, even if they don’t feel that way inside.
