How to Draw Underwater Effect With Pencil and Paper

Learn to draw people, animals, etc. is important, but you also need to be good at drawing the surrounding environment of your composition because that will bring your work to life.

Create an underwater environment: Adding bubbles of different sizes and small fish around it will make your composition look like an underwater world.

If you want to place your characters near the ocean floor, along with bubbles and fish, add a couple of wavy lines with some dots to represent the ocean floor. Add some sea creatures and some scattered rocks to deepen the feel.

Add a sense of depth and perspective: In the real world, everything is 3D, but your canvas is 2D. So, to successfully represent the real world on paper, you need special techniques.

In the real world, objects that are close to us appear larger than objects that are far from us. We apply the same techniques to represent the depth of a scene on a paper canvas. To make this technique even more powerful, you can draw objects that are further away from the viewer with light lines.

Another thing to remember is that you can always draw minor details for objects that are far away from the viewer.

Why shadows are important: Many beginners draw characters that appear to float in mid-air. This can be easily avoided by adding shadows to your characters. Adding exact and precise shadows can be difficult and time consuming, but luckily you don’t need to draw very detailed shadows. Adding small patches to represent the shadow will work fine.

To draw an outdoor scene, plan the position of the horizon first: While drawing an outdoor composition, beginners often confuse the position of the horizon. This can be easily avoided by deciding the position of the horizon at the beginning before drawing anything else on the canvas.
