How to Enter Christ’s Rest So You Can Stop Straining and Fighting

Have you ever tried to be successful at several things, but failed at most of them? That was my testimony. I mean, success just wasn’t there no matter how hard I tried. Have you ever tried to sell life insurance door to door? I did. Talk about failure. Talk about pathetic. It’s hard to believe how I mustered up the courage to go door to door selling life insurance to complete strangers. However, there was one thing that I did have going for me, persistence. That persistence paid off because I finally discovered the key to unlocking an unlimited source of wisdom, power, and ability to fulfill God’s purpose for my life and be successful in all that I do. I share with you my discovery.

One day my friend in college approached me in the outside dining area of the school cafeteria and asked if I would like to go to a Bible study. On a scale of one to ten, my desire to go to a Bible study was probably close to zero. I didn’t go to bible study. A few years later, another Christian friend did not ask me to go to a Bible study, but instead he came up to me, showed me his Bible, and told me that this was the way to go. When he said that, it was like a light went on inside me and I knew what he was saying was true.

Some time later I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Correction. At that moment I received him as my Savior, but not my Lord. To do it my Lord, to surrender to his will, would come later. Regardless, I started reading the Bible daily and developed a prayer life. One afternoon while I was waiting for the bus, a sweet old lady named Betty invited me to her church. I went to church, became a member, and started sharing the gospel with people.

Eventually I started listening to Christian ministers on TV teaching how to live by faith and not by sight. I learned the importance of reprogramming your mind with the Word of God. The unrenewed mind can have destructive thought patterns based on past knowledge and experiences that are contrary to God’s Word. We must renew our minds with the Word of God to free them from the slavery of wrong thinking. Using the power of God’s Word, break down the destructive mental strongholds of unbelief, selfishness, unforgiveness, lust, poverty, inferiority, and any other paralyzing and oppressive strongholds.

So it happened. As I read and listened to God’s Word, I discovered the key that unlocks God’s unlimited wisdom, power, and ability to succeed. What is the password? The key is to enter into Christ’s rest. A rest in which you cease from your own carnal works and allow the Creator of the Universe, Jesus Christ, to live through you unhindered by the flesh to do his righteous works. “For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God ordained beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

How do you enter into that rest to allow the provisional grace of Christ to flow through you to be successful in all you do? By faith. What is the faith? Faith is putting your trust in what God has promised you. He promised you rest from him in Hebrews 4:9-11. “There remains, then, a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered into his rest has also rested from his own works, as God from his. Let us work, then, to enter that rest, so that no one falls. following the same example of unbelief” (Hebrews 4:9-11).

If God said that he has given you rest, which he has, then you need to take that truth to your heart by meditating on it. When I say heart, I don’t mean the chest muscle that pumps blood. I mean that part of you that trusts in God. Once that truth enters your heart, your home will be free. You have entered into his rest. To get you started, I have created a scripture-based statement for you below that you can meditate on (think, stop, speak, and declare) until the truth hits your heart and becomes reality.

“By faith I have put on the light and easy yoke of Christ and have ceased from my own works and have entered into His rest. In that rest, his wisdom, power, skill, and love flow through me unimpeded by the flesh, and things that were difficult or impossible have become easy. Therefore, I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me, enables me and empowers me to succeed in every area of my life” (Matthew 11:28-30, Hebrews 4:9-11, Philippians 4:13).

So meditate on (think about, try, speak, and declare) the above scriptural statement until you experience the glorious rest that God has promised you in Christ. The more time you spend meditating on this scripture-based statement, the quicker the results will be. Be patient and the results will not be long in coming. Enter into his rest and experience the life of Christ flowing through you to catapult you to success in every area of your life. He lives in you and his spirit is one with your spirit. “But he who is united to the Lord is a spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:17).

The wisdom, power, ability, and love of Christ flowing through you unhindered by the flesh will take you to levels of success and joy beyond your wildest dreams. Come in and enjoy your break.
