Perimenopause and nausea

For most people, nausea is one of the worst feelings there is. After all, not only do you feel bad or sick, but your feelings are often accompanied by the thought of what can happen if the feeling gets out of control. The unpleasant and undesirable result of nausea out of control is something that everyone hates!

Unfortunately for women, perimenopause and nausea can sometimes go hand in hand. Many women say that nausea experienced during perimenopause is similar to morning sickness of pregnancy, except much worse! Some women have reported going through days or weeks of nausea where they can only eat one thing and only in small amounts.

The constantly turning stomach presented by nausea and other symptoms of perimenopause can be debilitating for a woman. Women often don’t eat enough, which leads to headaches, poor concentration, and fatigue. In the worst cases, a woman may be unable to perform any of her regular daily tasks or be malnourished.

So what’s a woman to do with perimenopause and the nausea that can accompany it?

If a woman is having her first bout of nausea, she is asked to make sure that being pregnant is out of the question. Once she has ruled this out, she must find ways to deal with the symptom. Every woman’s nausea tends to be different, so she’ll have to find a way that works for her. Some women say that eating soda crackers or drinking soda can help, while others say that increasing the amount of water you drink throughout the day can also help.

Other women say that meditation or relaxation techniques also work. This generally supports the theory that perimenopausal symptoms (including nausea) may be caused or worsened by extreme stress. Spending a few hours each day to meditate seems to help some women cope with nausea and other symptoms of perimenopause.

Since doctors aren’t yet sure what specific hormonal imbalance triggers the nausea experienced by perimenopausal women, the best advice they give involves a complete change in a woman’s lifestyle. Doctors generally recommend regular exercise, strict sleep habits, and healthy eating as a holistic way to rid women of nausea and perimenopausal symptoms in general.

Remember, your perimenopause and your nausea may be completely unique to you. Your best bet for surviving it all is to educate yourself on all the symptoms of perimenopause, understand what’s going on inside, and find the coping tricks that work best for you.
