Pros and cons of modern communication devices

There is no denying the fact that, among all inventions, the Internet and the mobile phone are the two that have changed communication the most. There are three reasons for this: the devices have significantly reduced the time it takes for information to be sent, they are widely available, and they allow us to pass messages in a variety of ways.

The advantages of modern communication devices.

First, via the Internet, the information reaches the other person almost immediately: emails are a faster version of letters, while documents (photos, records, music, etc.) can be quickly sent as files. attachments or upload to special websites in just a few minutes. . Also, mobile phones make information reach someone immediately, which is invaluable at work.

So, both the Internet and the mobile phone are widespread throughout the world and there is almost no one who does not own these devices. Thanks to them, people can easily contact their relatives or co-workers who live abroad.

Lastly, while using these two inventions we are not limited to one form of communication. The Internet allows us to exchange written information through email, social networks or instant messaging, but we can also hear and see each other thanks to video chats. Mobile phones allow both texting and calling, with the added feature of allowing users to attach images, recordings and photos.

All the benefits of modern communication are obvious and it is impossible for people not to take advantage of them. However, what is worrying is that communication through technology is becoming not common, but the only form of communication. People tend to forget about all the values and benefits of face-to-face conversation and meetings.

Face-to-face communication is not very suitable…

So why is non-face-to-face communication so widely adopted? It’s mainly because overworked societies act in a hurry and in a manner that befits the old adage: “time is money.” People find it unnecessary to waste time traveling a certain distance or stuck in traffic if they can save minutes by calling someone from where they are.

Also, people began to think that it doesn’t matter if they see someone face to face or with the use of a video camera. They find these two ways the same while chatting on the Internet: it lacks true emotions, we can’t hug someone when they’re sad, or observe their true feelings.

Probably the worst use of modern communication devices is when one wants to avoid dealing with stressful or difficult situations in person. Now, many teens break up with their partners by sending them text messages. The result may be that in the future they cannot deal with serious problems that cannot be dealt with in any other way than during a face-to-face conversation.

As the above points indicate, instead of developing real relationships, people get along with strangers over the Internet; instead of talking to their neighbors, they get on the phone and no longer know the people around them.

If we do not cultivate the traditional form of communication that is face to face, more and more people: will have problems building real relationships, will suffer from a feeling of isolation and will be characterized by low emotional intelligence.
