Cloud computing has changed the way software companies do business. Today, with the help of cloud computing, businesses can save a lot of their overall costs on both software and hardware by purchasing cloud services. In the cloud, software and hardware are offered as a service and companies do not need to invest in having them physically in their office.
They can access their data from the cloud with something as simple as a web browser. This feature of cthe loud has increased data portability. Although popularly embraced as one of the best forms of computing, private clouds are beginning to fail.
So why don’t they work? Why do we also have to look at other options? Aren’t they as safe as they were thought to be?
Not all the reasons identified are related to technical issues.
Let’s take a look at the reasons why these fail:
1. Focus only on cost savings when using the cloud: Most people focus only on the cost savings aspect of using a cloud. Because of this, they do not understand or take advantage of all aspects of using the cloud.
2. Lack of vision: When people don’t fully understand the potential of the cloud, they end up using its services when they can also do the same work from other sources.
3. Use of the developed architecture as a reference: Some companies do not customize the services they require, but end up using the existing reference architecture, which can cause their application to fail.
4. Accommodate procedures that are in sync with the changed infrastructure: Most companies go only as far as changing infrastructure when migrating to a cloud environment. They also need to make sure that processes are also changed so that they can use the cloud to its full potential.
5. Mistaking every virtual environment for a cloud: Not every virtual environment needs to be considered a cloud. The additional feature that the cloud has of being virtual is that it can be expanded according to the needs of the user.
6. Partial towards one type of cloud: There are different types of clouds, namely public, private and hybrid. Hybrid cloud is the best way to go today. Relying heavily on public or private clouds can cause issues like security for public clouds and provider issues for private clouds.
7. Lack of Skilled Teams – When working with the cloud, the teams that are deployed need to be properly equipped with the skill set necessary for their operation. Not being able to find such computers can also be the reason why the cloud is failing.
